Frodo

Frodo, a 3 year old, 4.54 kg neutered male DSH cat presented with inappetence and lethargy. Bloodwork showed anemia, lower lymphocytes, elevated globulin and total protein levels, low albumin and an a/g ratio of 0.2.

Treatment with GS injections was initiated on July 20, 2023 at 6 mg/kg SID.
The next day Frodo was already a bit more energetic and started eating more.

Early August Frodo was doing very well. He was eating lots, gaining weight and more playful then ever! He started having some diarrhea and was put on probiotics. The loose stool resolved over the next couple weeks. August 21st new labs were run. The anemia had resolved, lymphocytes bounced back and the proteins were starting to resolve. Frodo was now 5.14 kg. On September 13, the owner reported that Frodo was “eating a bunch, has SO much energy and is at 5.5 kg now.” He was a bit fidgety with injections but overall they were going well.
Sept 18th Frodo had new bloodwork. Frodo’s CBC panel was unremarkable and his a/g ratio was now 0.5. Frodo’s owner remarked, “He’s doing fantastic. He has never had this much energy since I got him last August, he barely sits still anymore lol. But yes, eating lots, super vocal and chatty, very playful with his toys, seems very happy and kittenish.”

On October 11th the labs indicated the albumin was still a bit low and the a/g ratio had remained at 0.5. The decision was made to increase the GS dosage to 10 mg/kg and extend treatment for 2 weeks. Oct 25th – new bloodwork indicated an a/g of 0.6. Frodo was doing fantastic, the vet had no clinical concerns and the decision was made to stop treatment.

January 24th labs were run again and everything was looking fantastic. The owner said, “He’s still seeming absolutely fine, lots of energy, very chatty and eating. He weighed in at 15 lbs.” Frodo was deemed officially FIP free/cured. To date he is a very healthy cat with no medical concerns.
