From Devastating To Treatable: How GS is Changing FIP Outcomes
“Based on recent experiences, I want to share my strong support for GS treatment in suspected feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) cases. In the past, FIP was a devastating diagnosis, often leading to euthanasia upon presentation. Now that GS is legal and available, as long as I have good communication and clear expectations with clients, I confidently recommend treatment for affected cats. FIP Advocates is a trusted resource for veterinarians and cat owners, providing support, research-based information, and advocacy for veterinarian-led treatment.
I’ve personally witnessed remarkable recoveries in cats with neurological symptoms (such as hind limb weakness), ocular issues (like aqueous flare and glaucoma), lymphadenopathy, abdominal masses, and general failure to thrive. In many cases, improvements begin within days of starting treatment, and clients describe the results as nothing short of a “miracle”.
While complications are possible and diligent monitoring is required, most clients find the process well worth the effort once they see their pet’s progress. For other veterinarians, don’t hesitate to try treatment or refer to a clinic that is comfortable with FIP case management. Your client will thank you!
Best Regards,
Stacey White, DVM”
